History

The National Institute for Education was founded on July 1st, 2011 by merging following three institutions run directly by the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports: the National Institute of Technical and Vocational Education (NÚOV), the Research Institute of Education (VÚP), and the Czech Institute for  Educational-Psychological Guidance (IPPP ČR).

National Institute of Technical and Vocational Education (NÚOV)

The foundations for the later National Institute of Technical and Vocational Institute were laid down in September 1950. The Study and Information Centre for Economic Curricula at Vocational and Technical School was founded in that year. Its mission was to support the education at schools of economics and secondary schools with other orientation and to integrate in their curricula the principals of the central management and the centrally planned economy.  This centre was located in the building of the State Stenography Institute at Senovážné náměstí.

Research Institute of Education in Prague (VÚP)

Already by the end of the 19th century teachers showed their interests towards the development of a centre, that would together with them search for methods and instrument enhancing the quality of the educational and teaching practice in the schools. The foundation of the J.A. Komenský Pedagogical Institute can be seen as a result of those aims. The institute was founded on behalf of the Ministry of Education of the newly created Czech Republic in the year 1919.   

Czech Institute for Educational-Psychological Guidance (IPPP ČR)

The institute was founded in accordance with the act No. 395/1991 Col. on schools facilities on February 1st, 1994 as an organisation funded and run directly by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic. Sb. The core of its activities was to provide guidance services at schools and facilities in the Czech Republic in following areas: prevention, pedagogical-psychology, special education and the guidance when making further education choices.
