Basic education takes place at basic school (in the nine-year programme), at special basic school (the ten-year programme), at the lower level of secondary general schools (in the eight-year programme) and conservatories (in their eight-year programme focusing on dance). Basic education can also be offered in the form of individual learning (§ 41 of the Education Act).
The basic and secondary schools can, after deliberation with the founder and the regional authority, organize courses to facilitate basic education in accordance with the national curricula to those persons who did not manage to get a basic education.
