The National Register of Qualifications

The National Register of Qualifications defines what is needed to pursue the occupation (or a segment of an occupation).

The National Register of Qualifications (NSK) is a public register of complete and partial qualifications and their qualifications and assessment standards. Part of the NSK is a system of qualification levels corresponding to the eight levels of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). It is a nationwide, state-guaranteed system defining all requirements on competences for particular qualifications irrespective of the way they were achieved. It creates a bridging system framework for initial and adult education that enables to compare all national qualifications with qualifications defined and described in other European states – see EQF (European Qualifications Framework).

This system is underpinned by the act 179/2006 on Recognition and Validation of continuing education results as amended. The NSK consists of qualifications (qualification standards) grouped into particular levels. The NSK is a common framework for initial and adult education and for the recognition of learning outcomes. The NSK enables to compare qualifications recognised in the Czech Republic with qualifications recognised in other European states. The NSK represents a bridge between the world of education and the world of work.

The NSK presents thus a systematic environment supporting following procedures:

  • comparability of learning outcomes that were achieved through various forms of learning and education,
  • recognition of real knowledge and skills - irrespective of the forms of learning and education,
  • transfer of requirements from the world of work into the education area,
  • public awareness on all nationwide recognised qualifications,
  • comparability of qualification levels in the Czech Republic and in the European Union.
